Letter from the Editors
Hello, and thank you for picking up this year’s first full issue of the Tower Times! We are so grateful to last year’s Editor-in-Chiefs, Magnolia Judy and Carly Pence, for leading us to where Tower Times is now. We, along with the entire Tower Times team, are super thrilled to work together again as we continue to expand our outreach within the Whitefish Bay school community and discover new, innovative ways to share news, opinions, and other stories.
We are so thrilled to welcome new faces to Tower Times this year and hear their interest in reporting, layout design, and so much more! We’re also incredibly happy to see our returning reporters and great editorial board taking the lead in producing content for our Instagram and website, and growing our overall multimedia presence. Whether that be by expanding School Spelunking into a web series, creating new podcasts, or bringing in school performers for recorded concerts, it’s sure to be an incredibly fun year for the Tower Times online!
In more exciting news, we plan to expand our community engagement even more in our next issues by bringing back Letters to the Editor. Letters to the Editor are a way for students, staff, and all Tower Times readers to voice their opinion, advocate for something they are passionate about, or respond to something published in Tower Times. So in the upcoming weeks, keep an eye out in the school hallways for flyers with QR codes to submit your Letter to the Editor. You can also submit your letter by directly emailing us. We hope to hear from you!
We would also love more students to join Tower Times! Whether it’s investigating a question, designing how our issues look, producing a podcast, or digitizing past Tower Times issues, there is something for anyone and everyone -and it’s never too late to join! Please don’t hesitate to reach out or come to our next pitch meeting dates (which will be posted in the announcements!) to share your ideas.
Finally, in a time where media censorship has become more common and free speech has come into increased questioning across the country, we realize the importance of having a publication like Tower Times within our school community. Publications like the Tower Times aim to provide WFBHS students with the clearest information out there on events- from ones happening in Whitefish Bay, to the across the country and world. Our values and goals, including representing diverse voices and perspectives, as well as shining light on noteworthy topics that are of significance and interest to our audience, continue to be our top priorities!
We hope you enjoyed this issue and that you are looking forward to future Tower Times publications! We and the Tower Times team are definitely eager to get back to work- we’ll see you soon!
– Gabriella and Anya
